New York City Central Labor Council Parade

Sept. 8th, 2012: On a day where the sun gave way to clouds and rain, another force made its way through New York City undeterred, The Garage Employees Union Local 272.  In a parade route on 5th Avenue for the annual New York City Central Labor Council Parade, Local 272 marched along side their fellow Teamsters and other labor organizations.
In an effort to gain momentum and to take Local 272 into state prominence, over 40 members braved the weather to march in solitary with their brothers and sisters in recognition of the ongoing organized labor movement.  The significance of this movement is strongly highlighted against the current era of anti-organized labor atmosphere that many state governments are adopting.
However, there were supportive local and state officials in attendance. Particularly among them was New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn who met and took pictures with members of our board and our fellow members.  This was an essential snapshot in history considering the speaker’s aspirations for a mayoral run.
Considering the inconsistent weather the mood remained festive and animated.  Many spectators in attendance showed  support to the all the marching organizations.  The parade ended at 5th avenue and 67th street.
